Do Baby Front Carriers Keep Your Infant Safe?

Until you have fully experienced the marvelous value of carrying your newborn "hands free," you will never know what you are missing. From the beginning of time, mothers of newborn babies have been occupied with other day-to-day responsibilities that often demanded the use of their hands. Because a newborn human demands to have the need to be nurtured met in a very determined way at times, the new parent has few choices: let the baby cry it out until he or she either falls asleep or reached the realization that crying was not going to produce the desired nurturing, put off the work at hand in order to tend to the baby's needs and wants until the baby was ready for a nap, or incorporate the physical contact into the work at hand.

Somewhere along the way, western civilization got away from the use of baby slings, scarves, and carriers that functioned to keep the baby close to his or her mother's body without paralyzing the mother from being able to accomplish her many daily duties. Luckily, with the advent of the internet, women have started opening their eyes to some of the incredible ideas that were lost with the introduction of strollers, bouncy seats, car seats, and bassinets.

There are several products that facilitate hands free physical nurturing of a baby: front carriers, backpacks, scarves, and baby slings.

Baby front carriers, which are comprised of two shoulder harness straps that typically criss-cross the back and support a fabric seat that the baby is {slid|slipped} into with his or her feet hanging. In this type of carrier, the baby can face toward either the front or the back and is usually held very close to the parents chest.

Backpacks are usualy used for a somewhat older baby that has excellent neck control and is sitting up fairly well without support. Baby backpacks typically have a rugged aluminum or plastic frame. The advantage is that the heavier baby is more easily held with the stronger back muscles. The main disadvantage is that backpacks do not lend to the intimacy of face-to-face contact with the baby.

A baby scarf is a long fabric that is wrapped around the baby and the shoulders and back of the mother. The swathing effect keeps the baby close to the heat, sound, and touch of his or her mother. Once a baby starts to get a little older and more active, a scarf is more difficult to use as the baby often works them loose, making them less safe.

A baby sling is perhaps the most versatile of the options available for hands free carrying of a baby because of the ease in positioning the baby in accordance with his or her size, strength, development, and immediate needs. A baby can lie down in a cradled position, discreetly breastfeed (Yes. With practice, this too can take place HANDS FREE!), sit up either facing the adult, facing away from the adult, sitting on the hip of the adults, or even on the back. The disadvantage of the sling is that it will take diligent use to get comfortable with as your baby grows. Trust me, the patience and practice will pay off BIG TIME! Many children and mothers use a baby sling for as long as five and six years, dependent on the size of the child.

Take the time to look into which hands free baby carrying method is best for you and your family. The value and peace of mind you get will be immeasurable!

Baby Health Depends On Food And Environment

Baby health is dependent to a great extent on the health of the mother, especially during the time of her pregnancy.  The genes of both the parents have a large role to play in baby health.  Besides, the care taken of the baby, nursing the baby and all the precautions taken against major diseases contribute to it.

Care Before Birth

To ensure baby health the expectant mother must keep herself physically fit to have a normal and healthy baby.  Most women require special foods high in proteins after they become pregnant.  The nourishment should be good, and the mother should be relieved from work stress or any other kind of mental stress.  This can have an effect on baby health later.

Baby health care indicates providing the proper environment for the baby, where the environment should be clean, safe and cheerful.  Physical surroundings alone have little influence on the baby health and its development.  The people responsible for a baby’s care are the most important part of the baby’s environment.

Feeding procedures

A baby may be fed milk from the mother’s breast or baby milk mixture from a bottle.  It is always better to breast-feed the baby at least the first few months in the beginning, but sometimes it may not be possible and bottle feeding is the answer.  Baby health is largely dependent on the fact whether the baby has been breast-fed or not.  A natural immunity is built within the baby’s body if he is nursed by the mother, and makes him less prone to diseases and gives him a stronger constitution. Besides, the mother’s milk contains all the nourishment that most babies need, like the essential vitamins.

Vaccination

In most countries, babies are usually vaccinated against seven fatal diseases.  This has become a normal procedure for good baby health, and soon after birth the baby receives the vaccinations in stages from the family doctor or a pediatrician.   In any case regular visits to the doctor are important to check out whether the growth and the development of the baby are proceeding normally.  Any untoward signs showing deterioration in baby health can be treated immediately.

Physical and emotional deprivations are two environmental factors that have a severe effect on baby health and their growth and development.  Babies brought up in poor living conditions are likely to be smaller and more prone to illnesses and accidents.  Those who are not cuddled, held and loved become listless, lose their appetite, and in cases of extreme neglect, may not survive. Babies who are cared for lovingly, that is, in close and understanding contact with their parents, have the best chances of developing a normal, healthy personality.

Story Telling - 3 Types of Stories To Tell

Children love hearing stories.

One easy way to begin your story telling career is to use a picture book. I find that holding it against my chest/stomach and reading it upside down works well. If you cannot read upside down, then hold it off to one side so you can glance over at it that way. A good plan is to read the story ahead of time so you do not have to read the story word-by-word. Younger children will not even know that you are not saying the exact words.

What type of story should you read?

I present here 3 classic story telling types.

  • fairy tale
  • nature story
  • historical story

Let's look at each type.

The Fairy Tale

"Once upon a time ..."

So starts the best known type of story. At least in many Western Cultures. A fairy tale. Most of us can remember being told fairy tales. Little Red Riding Hood, Snow-White, The Emperor's New Clothes, Puss-in-Boots, and many more. Many of these have been made into modern animated movies, and in some cases, regular live actor movies. A favourite is The Princess Bride. Or how about Ever After starring Drew Barrymore.

Although most children just hear the simple story, the underlying moral truths or general life experience lessons seep into their subconscious, to emerge later in life.

The Nature Story

Bringing animals, and even plants, to life is another common story type. Was your first thought Bambi? This famous Walt Disney movie is about a young deer as he grows and matures. E.B. White's beloved children's book "Charlotte's Web" is about a spider and a number of farm animals. It was also made into a movie.

The nature story type can be used to introduce actual facts about nature, and about the interaction amongst nature's various creatures and plants, etc. As well, and especially for city children, this story type introduces them to life forms that they rarely get to see. A fitting extension to this is a trip to a zoo, or even a real farm or large forested area.

The Historical Story

Whereas a nature story tends to discuss the present, the historical story helps us to give our children a sense of their past, and their ancestors. As a child's mind matures and enables them to understand the concepts of parents, grandparents, and beyond, a historical story enables us to share a connection of generation with generation. I think of "Little House on the Prairies" as one example here in North America. A historical story also helps build a sense of patriotism and national pride.

Historical stories also give our children stories of true heroes, as opposed to the modern sports hero, and similar. Quality historical stories often help instill desire of emulating goodness and wisdom.

Time to Act

If you do not already do so, start now to introduce your child to stories. Pick one from the above genres and read some of it each evening, just before bed. Your child will become enthralled and will look forward to this new nightly ritual. In many cases it will turn them into readers as they grow, and maybe even decrease their dependence on electronics!

I would also suggest that you visit websites like Grandpa Richard's Children for other ideas and advice on raising children, and thoroughly enjoying your child's, or your grandchild's, early years.

Should You Send Baptism Invitations?

Have you decided yet if you are going to send out christening or baptism invitations?  This is a momentous occasion and deserves to be announced in formal style to family and friends.

Christening or baptism invitations play an intregral part in your planning since they provide guests with all the details.  Shopping online and having them printed by a professional printer will certainly save you time since you will only have to address them for mailing.  Invitation websites usually have a nice selection of christening and baptism invitation designs available.

TIP – It’s usually more cost effective to include a few more invitations in your original order than to have to order more later.  Additional christening invitations can be used for extra guests not originally included in your count.  Also, be sure to save at least one as a souvenir so it can be framed, placed in a memory album or added to your baby’s scrapbook.

Here are the details to include on your christening or baptism invitations.

·         Baby’s Name

·         Parents’ Names

·         Date and Time of Baptism or Christening Ceremony

·         Name and Address of Ceremony Location

·         Time and Location of Reception (if separate from ceremony)

If you are planning a formal celebration and inviting quite a few guests, you might want to include some type of RSVP on the invitation to help in your seating and food planning. This can range from placing your phone number at the bottom of the invitation to actually including a separate response card for your guests to return to you. When ordering baptism invitations, some of the formal styles will have a matching response card available.  If you include a response card, be sure to place a postage stamp on its accompanying envelope as a convenience to your guests since your address will be printed on the envelope for return mailing.

Thank you cards or informal note cards are sometimes also available to match your invitations.  Informal notes are personalized with your baby's name on the front and the inside is left blank for your personal handwritten thank you note.

This is the first step of your baby's spiritual life that deserves to be celebrated with family and friends so you’ll want to formally announce all the details with special baptism or christening invitations.  Remember to save one to cherish as a lasting keepsake for you and your baby.

Are You Wondering What to Eat in Order to Have a Baby Boy?

Does a woman's diet have anything to do with the gender of her child? Some believe it does, and others then wonder what to eat in order to have a baby boy. Before you start making your shopping list there are some things you want to consider first. Number one, there is no magic recipe or special shake you can whip up in the blender that is going to guarantee the gender of your child, boy or girl. While some may advise you on what to eat in order to have a baby boy, these changes may only increase your odds very slightly, if at all, so be prepared for a girl when the pregnancy does happen and get that ultrasound from the doctor before you pain the nursery blue and toss out the "girl's section" of the baby name book.

It is known that the "male sperm" travels faster but does not last as long as the more robust "female" sperm." This is where your considerations of what to eat to increase your chance of conceiving a baby boy come into play. When you create an atmosphere or environment that is difficult for the sperm to survive in, you make it that much more difficult for the "boy sperm" to last long enough to reach an egg. So basically you want foods that will help to preserve sperm so that you can help them survive for longer. Most people believe that the sodium in salty foods and the potassium in red meat can both help in this regard. Many recommend saltine crackers or soda bread, both of which have high sodium content. An increase in red meat every day might also help.

A word of caution though. If you are thinking of changing what you eat in order to have a baby boy you must be very careful that you don't put your health at risk. Too much salt can make you retain water and can cause your blood pressure to go up. Too much red meat is also somewhat unhealthy as the body has a hard time digesting it. Whatever changes you decide to make to your diet – be sure and run them past a doctor first.

Ways To Help Relieve the Pain Of Your Baby Teething

The baby teething process is a difficult one on both the parents and the child. For most babies, it's a very painful process as the infant teeth begin to come in.  It is difficult to sooth their gums, leaving many parents upset by their crying child.  While some babies do not have a complicated time, parents should be prepared for difficulty.  Infants generally begin teething at around six months old.

Indications of Teething

The baby teething process will be unique to each baby.  With some children, the crankiness and agitation begin just before the teething process starts.  Some children will become the most irritable just as the teeth break through the gums.  Other children may be fine while the first few teeth appear, but grow more agitated as later teeth appear.  It is thought that babies are caused the most distress because they are not familiar with the sensations, so the new feelings scare them.

Baby teething can also cause your child to drool excessively.  Many babies will begin producing extra saliva while they are teething.  This excessive dribbling can cause rashes on the chin, because of the excess moisture that lingers on the skin.  Use a drool bib or wipes to keep the chin as dry as possible.  Preventing a rash will keep your baby from suffering further agitation during this painful process.

Some children will begin to show symptoms that resemble the common cold during the baby teething process.  They might have a low fever, runny nose, or a slight cough.  If you notice any of these symptoms lasting for more than a day or two, consult your physician to make sure that there is not a problem.

Some babies pull on their ears or chew things when they begin teething.  The chewing is an attempt to put pressure on the gums and relieve the teething sensation.  If your baby is pulling on their ear and displaying a slight fever, check with your pediatrician to see if it is just teething or if it is an ear infection.

Baby Teething Assistance

It can be difficult to see your child in pain. There are some over the counter medicines available to parents who prefer to alleviate the pain.  Discuss these options with a physician before using them.

A baby teething ring is a safe way to help your child.  Place the ring in the refrigerator to cool it, and then your child can gnaw on the ring to soothe their gums.Other similar options include rubbing their gums with a cool flannel or your finger.  Some babies find lots of relief in these strategies.  Try them all to see what your child best responds to.

The baby teething process can seem like it never ends, especially if the baby is constantly agitated and crying.  Pay attention to the symptoms and begin to offer remedies as soon as possible.  This will help you both through the process more easily.  It is only a temporary pain that will be over before you know it.

How Academic Camp Can Benefit Children in Academic Enrichment

Summer Camps with Academic Rationale

Fun and educational, these academic and sports camps are designed to develop self-confidence and competence in a nurturing and friendly environment. This article poses as a guidelines as to how the right selection of a summer camp can bring huge benefits in children.

There are courses for summer sessions targeting students who are in grades 9 through 12. The courses also comprise of a choice of high school credit courses. Such high school summer camps are best for school going children.

Camps dealing with educational aspects such as academic summer camps might be operated as part of university summer sessions and as summer school of prep schools, or even as a private educational camp. They offer an array of courses in traditional school subjects like math and English, as well enrichment courses in subjects that might not be taught in schools.

Program Offerings

A unique way to academics provides an individually tailored program for each student as well as individual assistance. As we know that individual progress does not keep pace with the speed of others in the class. Students once mastered the basics are free to go quickly into new areas. Children can revive their learning, tackle advanced subjects and search their new interests.

Academic camp gives students instruction in and private reference books about the subject how to learn. This vital instruction – missing in many school systems today – can greatly increase any camper's enthusiasm for further learning. They learn these study methods and make use of the data they are studying in school. This understanding and knowledge of camp fills confidence in the students in a way that they can rest assured that they can succeed in today's competitive environment.

Individual Attention or Personalized Program

All children are not with the similar intellectual minds. Students are therefore given diagnostic testing. As a result , all the programs are designed keeping in mind their strength, weakness and interests . Therefore, a high level of personal attention is always there for the development of campers.

A Unique Way to Learning

How campers are taught is what makes summer camps truly unique. Students work independently in a highly disciplined classroom even if their trainers supervise and advice. They offer guiding and provide clues so that students can learn on their own. Key to making this work is a systematic study guide termed as a check-sheet designed to bring a camper into useful understanding of a particular topic.

Learning to Study

It is obvious that within every individual, there is an innate desire to learn and know more. Thus , the process of learning is basically a pleasurable experience. A summer camp has thus to be geared to offering kids courses that may create interest of learning in them.

Because this study of technology gives simple but powerful tools with which any subject can be fully realized. A student with capabilities and interest explores his unlimited potential for success.

Choosiing Summer Camp Locations

There are many different summer camp locations to choose. On of such option is North Carolina summer camps. Students can choose an adventure that lasts a week or the entire summer. Choose programs that focus on almost everything from education and language enrichment to outdoor excitements that may include activities such as skiing, camping, rock climbing and many more. They can also pick up a travel program devoted to sightseeing and daily excursions .

Explaining the Importance of Your Baby Change Bag

For such a small person, there is a lot of gear that needs to be taken when you leave the house with a baby. From toys to bottles to clean diapers, it is of value to have all the essentials when you head out with your youngster.  Having a baby change bag can make this process much easier.  Once you purchase the bag, keep it stocked with all the necessities at all times so there will be no need to repack the bag for every quick trip.

Each baby change bag is different, so it is important to find the right one for you.  There are several key features that make traveling with your baby simple.A bag which possesses a portable, folding change mat and separate compartments for various types of items will make organization a breeze.  Also, having a separate section for soiled items or outfits will prevent them from coming into contact with clean items.  You should also look for a bag that is simple to clean.  Many have interiors that are easy to wipe down and sanitize.

There are many shapes, sizes, and styles of baby change bag available. There are bags that look like backpacks or messenger bags, or ones that are specifically designed to fit in a pushchair.  Backpack versions are very convenient when you are on hikes or walking around locations such as the mall, because they will leave your hands free to carry your child or other items.  They can also be very stylish, so you can choose a bag that matches your personality.

Before going to the store to buy a baby change bag, make a list of all the items that you will be regularly carrying with you.  If you are becoming a parent for the first time, consult with other moms or dads to see if they have any suggestions that you missed from your list.  Some examples of items include spare outfits in case your child vomits, fresh diapers, and baby wipes.  It is also helpful to keep some sort of distraction handy, in case your baby does not like having his or her diaper changed.A little toy, particularly if it makes noise, is an good choice.

Buying a baby change bag as a gift for a new mom can be tricky.  Check to see what stores they have registered at and look if there is a bag that they specifically want.  If not, try to find out what brand of stroller they are using.  Then you can find a bag which is designed specifically for use with it.  Keep your friend’s style in mind as well, because it never hurts to get them something fashionable and cute.

Since modern dads will frequently carry the baby change bag as well, keep an eye out for unisex items.  Buying a bag that is pink or floral print may not be his top choice.  There are many bags which a man would feel comfortable carrying when he is out with his baby.

You can start by avoiding products that have chemicals and opt instead for products with natural ingredients.

Going Back To Basics

When it comes to finding the best baby skin care for your baby the way to go is natural. Anything that has petrochemicals in it should be avoided. Be careful when buying lotions and moisturisers as these are the main culprits when it comes to petrochemicals. Scratch off petroleum jelly as well when looking for the best baby skin care products.

Supporting a local company could be the best thing as you are more likely to know where the ingredients come from.

If you’re still in doubt as to which are the best baby skin care products out there look for a board or guide that ranks organic and natural products. Make sure to read the labels and look for products that are fragrance and color free. The less synthetic ingredients there are in your baby care products the better.

5 Reasons Why the Internet Can Be Dangerous for Children and Teens

Are you the parent of a child or a teenager who wants to use the internet, if they don’t already?  If so, you may have some concerns.  Yes, it is typically safe for your child to use the internet to do research for school projects, but did you also know that children and teens are now using it to communicate with their friends or other internet users?  This is how and when using the internet at a young age can become a problem.

As important as it is to hear that your child can find themselves in trouble online, if you do not know what internet safety steps can help to protect them, you may be looking for more information.  You also may be curious as to what it is about the internet that can be so dangerous.  For your convenience, five reasons why internet use can be dangerous for children and teenagers are highlighted below.

1 – False Identities Are Easy to Create

Making new friends online is easy and convenient, but it is much different than doing so in person.  Why?  Because you can’t see who is at the other end of the computer.  The internet makes it easy for someone to be anyone else in the world.  For example, if your child is using social networking websites online, they have to enter in their age.  They could easily lie themselves or they could be talking to someone else who is.

2 – Internet Predators

As it was previously stated, the internet makes it easy to create a new, false identity.  Often times, the individuals who lie about their ages are internet predators.  They are the ones who target children, like yours.  Unfortunately, many children, teenagers, and their parents cannot tell an internet predator until it is too late, like when the predators try to approach your child or contact them in person.

3 – So Many Websites To Choose From

What is nice about the internet is that you have so many websites to choose from.  In fact, that is why it is a good way to research school projects.  With that said, having so many websites to choose from can be dangerous.  Your child can gain access to social networking websites, adult chat rooms, pornographic websites, and websites that are violent in nature.  Unless you have parental controls set up, your child can easily access any type of website with a standard internet search.

4 – Not All Information Is Private

Unfortunately, many individuals, including both children and parents, do not know that the information that is posted online isn’t always private.  For starters, most teens have their MySpace profiles set to public, as opposed to private.  This means that anyone can view it.  There are also online message boards that are indexed by the search engines.  This means that others can view the conversations that were discussed, even years down the road.

5 – They Are In Control

When your child uses the internet, they are the ones who are in control.  This can be okay if your child is older and mature, but you honestly never know.  You may ask your child not to communicate with strangers online, give out their phone numbers, or share pictures with strangers, but that doesn’t mean that they will follow your rules.  For that reason, if you do let your child use the internet, be sure to monitor their use.

The Beauty and Simplicity of Sterling Silver Baby Gifts

There are so many choices of gifts available for new babies.  One popular choice is sterling silver baby gifts.  These presents are often associated with the baby’s godparents and christening, but that does not mean that there aren’t choices for other people who are looking for a keepsake.

Advantages of Sterling Silver Baby Gifts

For the child’s godparent, it can be difficult to go wrong with a traditional gift crafted in sterling silver.  These types of gifts include items like spoons, napkin rings, charms, or trinket boxes.  Since they are small items, they will be able to be kept safe until the child grows up, without taking up much room in the home.  They can also be engraved with initials or other personalizing features.  It is a gesture that will always be appreciated, and takes out the worry of purchasing the wrong size or color for the newborn. It also is not something they will outgrow speedily like clothing is.

Disadvantages of Sterling Silver Baby Gifts

There are many questions to ask yourself before buying sterling silver baby gifts, especially if you are picking out an expensive item. Will you buy the selfsame item for the next child that the parents have?  If the gift is for a relative, will you now feel obligated to buy an expensive item for every new baby?If you decide on a special present, are you going to get it engraved?  Will the engraving be initials or just the Christian name?  Will it be dated?  Will their birthday or christening day be the one that is engraved?  There seems to be a long list of things to think about with sterling silver gifts.  Consider the trend that you are setting by making an expensive purchase as a baby gift, and think about anyone that might see it as an obligation to continue buying expensive presents for new babies.

Where to Find Sterling Silver Baby Presents

Your budget will shape where you can afford to shop for these baby gifts.  Top of the line jewelers offer numerous sterling silver gifts, from trinkets to rattles.  They can personalize the gift with an engraving or special gift wrap as well.  However, there are many stores that you can look at if you have a slightly more limited budget.  Consider looking at antique stores for a special present.  Car boot sales and online auction sites like eBay offer opportunities for consumers to pick up items at a significant discount.  If you spend the time researching and looking around for your purchase, you will find the perfect item for any budget.  If you are careful to buy an item that was never engraved, you can still personalize it later.

Remember not to stress out about the gift that you are giving.  New parents are simply looking for the love and support of their friends, and not an expensive item.  Finding something that expresses your feelings and has real thought will be better than any pricy sterling silver baby gift.

Dealing with Autism

Autism is a very strange problem. Learning that your child might have autism may be quite a challenge. Autism is a condition that can resemble a large number of other types of abnormalities that affect the mental development, as well as the emotional development of children. If you find that your child is registering of any type of mental issue that is different from most other children, you might want to consult your child's doctor. They will be able to evaluate the child for any likely concerns. If autism is a consideration, your child will be referred to a collection of doctors that focus on diagnosing autism. Here, you will develop ways to understand the signs of autism.

The first sign of autism that you willunderstand is lack of social development. It starts with an newborn who may not care to be held, or has little response to her name. A child with autism often has a rather hard time when it comes to meeting with similar ages. They may not be able to convey their emotions in a normal way. They may not bond with friends and family members in the same way that a non-autistic child can. The autistic child often avoids scenarios where they are pushed to touch other people or talk with other children.

The next sign of autism that you should understand is the fact that children with autism are not able to communicate as good as children of the same age group. There are a number of autistic children that are unable to speak at all; they simply make sounds and gestures. Some children can speak, but they only repeat what they hear and cannot speak their own thoughts. If an autistic child speaks, he or she may speak well below their age group. They may not speak with reflection like most people. They usually speak in a very uni tone manner

You should try to evaluate how your child reacts to various kinds of this stimulation. Children who have autism may become very frightened of different types of sensory stimulation. Many children can become obsessed with certain types of sensory stimulation. For example, a child may focus nonstop on a particular sound for long lengths of time. If your child is showing this type of behavior, you should bring it up to their pediatrician when it happens.

A lot of children with autism experience rituals that they perform on a regular basis. If it is not performed, the child may start acting stressed out in a hysteric way. For example, the child may wish to eat a certain meal every day, or may wish to wear their pants a certain way. If this is not achieved, then it might result in the child throwing a blowup.

If your child shows any of the listed signs of autism, it is very important that you seek medical attention. As tough as it is to think your child has Autism, it is best to RULE IT OUT. The experts will work closely with you to ensure the treatment is given and you receive the services that are necessary to raise a child with autism in a successful way.

If you are unable to rule Autism out, one of the best things you can do for yourself is to read books on Autism. Without a doubt, the best book you can read is , The 10 Things an Autistic Child Wishes you Knew about them. It gives so much understanding into what he are thinking and the reason they do some of the abnormal things they do. This is a must for those dealing with autism.

4 Signs That Your Teenager May Be In Trouble Online

Are you a parent who has a teenager who uses the internet?  If you are, do you know that your teenager may run into trouble online?  Their chances increase when they are using the internet to socialize with friends or make new friends.  Your child may unintentionally fall victim to a child predator online or they may be harassed by those that they know online. But, would you know if your child is in trouble?

For your convenience, there are four signs that your teenager may be in trouble online.  If any of these signs apply to your child, you will want to take action right away.

1 – They Get on the Computer at the Same Time Everyday

What many parents do not realize is that children and teenagers can easily become targets of online child predators.  Many also do not realize that this process doesn’t always happen overnight.  Some child predators pretend to be the ages of their targets.  They then work to gain the trust of those targets.  This can take a few days or a few weeks.  You may be able to tell if this is happening though if your child gets on the internet at the same time, every single day.  This is a good sign that they are communicating directly with someone, who may not have pure intentions.

2 – They Are Secretive When They Use the Computer

How does your child act when they are using the computer?  Does your child try to hide what they are doing online from you?  If they automatically shut off the computer or put a game on the screen, they may be trying to prevent you from seeing what they are doing online.  This is a good sign that your child may be doing something they shouldn’t be doing online, like having direct, personal conversations with a stranger, who may be a child predator.

3 – They Are Very Happy When Getting Off the Computer

If your child is overly happy when they sign off the internet, they may be on the path to trouble.  This sign can be a little bit tricky though.  Your child may be happy because they just finished a long school project, but you honestly never know.  If your teenager is communicating with someone online, they may be in the process of starting a relationship, which they are happy about.  Unfortunately, many teenagers do not realize that anyone can hide behind a computer.  That is why it is important that you talk to your child about the dangers of starting an online romance.

4 – They Are Very Depressed

As previously stated, your child may be very happy when using the internet, but another warning sign is that they are depressed, especially when they sign off the computer.  What many parents do not realize is that other teenagers use the internet for harassment.  If your teenager has a falling out with one of their friends, they may find themselves being harassed online.  If that is the case, your child may seem very down, depressed, and withdrawn.

The four above mentioned signs are just a few of the many that you will want to look for to see if your child is in trouble online.  With that said, there are additional signs that you will want to be on the lookout for, the biggest being a change in behavior.  If you do suspect that your child has or is about to run into trouble online, be sure to talk to them and as soon as possible.

Newborns Need Natural Skin Care

There are many skin care products that are being marketed as essential for your newborn. But it might surprise you to know that some experts believe that these baby skin care products may actually do more harm than good. The reason for this is the chemical ingredients they often contain.

You want to avoid exposing your baby to chemicals as long as possible. Leave your baby's skin to develop unimpeded. This way, skin problems and irritations like allergies or eczema aren't as likely to show up.

Your baby needs only the simplest of skin care. So keep away from any and all chemical laden products in your baby's first month. In your baby's first month all that's necessary for bathing is some warm water and a soft cloth. You can comb thick hair with a baby comb to get it clean during bath time.

Nature Knows Best

Natural is the best way to go when approaching baby skin care. Natural care means not interfering with your baby's skin as much as possible.

When your baby is born you may notice a white substance on your baby's skin that is sticky in texture. This is a natural moisturizer so don’t wipe it away. It should be allowed to penetrate the skin on its own.

If your baby is premature then it is even more important that you hold back on using any baby care products. This is because a premature baby’s skin is even more delicate than other babies. The best time to start skin care for your premature baby is after the exact due date of your baby.

Cleaning the Cord Area

Be sure to keep the region around the cord clean and dry until it falls off. You don't have to use lotion and powder on it. If the area gets dirty simply use a soft cloth and water to wipe it clean before patting dry.

If your baby is premature or sick then the skin care routine you should follow for keeping the cord clean may be different. You may need to use antiseptic wipes in the area to help prevent infection. Your pediatrician can help you out with advice on caring for the skin of a sick or premature baby.

Start using baby wipes only after your baby is a month old. Choose baby wipes that don't contain alcohol and are unscented. They should be as mild as possible. Moisturizers containing emollients are the best choice for a newborn.

The Importance of Sleep and Routine for Young Children

Quality sleep can fill you with vigor, and no one needs more energy than a youngster does. Without sufficient nighttime sleep, little ones can display behavioral problems, have trouble learning and experience health issues. Sleep problems in children are surprisingly frequent. Read on for more information on the symptoms of common sleep disorders in children, how they can affect their development and the treatment options available.

When they are first born, infants have irregular sleep patterns and might only sleep for a couple of hours at any one time. However, over the period of 24 hours, they will average roughly 16 hours total sleep time. Once they start getting older, the amount of sleep young children need, will gradually lessen. While a pre school toddler may still need upwards of 12 hours sleep each day, once they begin school, that figure will reduce to approximately 10 hours. Even so, no two kids are identical and each will have their own unique sleep pattern.

It is well known that a youngster who has a sleep problem will in addition develop behavioral and attention difficulties in school. Various studies have reported that roughly thirty-seven percent of all school aged youngsters experience profound, nighttime sleeping issues. Problems may include a reluctance to go to bed, disrupted sleep, nightmares and sleepwalking. In older children, bedwetting can also turn into a challenge. Sleep problems are also common in kids with attention deficit hyperactive disorder or ADHD. It is essential to try to figure out if these issues, particularly if your child has trouble dropping off, are a side effect of any ADHD medication he or she might be taking.

Sleep problems in children can without doubt be overcome if a natural sleep schedule is adopted to ensure that your little one gets enough rest. Begin by establishing a quiet time before bed. This is a great time to take a bath and read a story. By unwinding and relaxing, your youngster will be able to drift off quicker. Once the body adjusts to a set schedule, they are more likely to be ready for bed at the same time each night. If your child suffers from nighttime terrors or nightmares, then make her more cozy by switching on a night light in the bedroom and letting her to sleep with a favorite teddy bear or other cuddly toy. Physical comfort, such as a firm sleep system is also key to a good night of rest, as well as roomy and comfy pyjamas.

Kids learn from good example, so observe a natural sleep ritual yourself. If your child's symptoms remain, then consider seeing a sleep specialist. On occasions sleep problems in children can be caused by depression or several other anxiety disorders. Nonetheless, remember that every child is different. If they are energetic and active during the day, then do not worry if they are having periodic sleepless nights.
